It is obvious that it is a necessity for traditional handicrafts to keep pace with technical developments in today’s world where technology rapidly covers all areas of our lives. In every period of history, art has been made in different styles and forms according to the level of development of the period. It is a known fact that traditional handicrafts have difficulties in maintaining their existence in our age where technology and digitalization have gained speed. This study discusses the modernization of the traditional Midyat filigree in the face of the increasing possibilities of technology. The production process of Midyat filigree has been observed and traditional Midyat filigree has been compared with machinery and fabricated silver casting products. In the face of mass production casting and fabricated silver jewelery suppressing traditional Midyat filigree, samples of a model application other than traditional methods are examined and the meeting of filigree with technology is discussed. In Midyat filigree production, where traditional methods are applied from melting to thinning of raw silver, traditional filigree inner filling models are placed in the ready-made mold for the first time. It is important that this method, which will speed up the production of filigree, be applied without harming its traditional character. This study also emphasizes the modernization of the materials used in filigree production and the application of computer-aided technical design in filigree design. Visual analysis, field research and free interview technique have been used as methods. The process of transformation of Midyat filigree from raw silver into work has been observed until the end. It is an original work in that it deals with the modernization of Midyat filigree through a sample application. It is important in terms of comparing traditional Midyat filigree with imitation casting products and including their visuals.
